Wide Awake and Dreaming: A Memoir of Narcolepsy by Julie Flygare
I read this book and was just so amazed at how she was able to capture in words how a chronic illness can effect people. I don’t have Narcolepsy as you know. I have Vasculitis and in reading her book I was able to relate so much. The waiting for being dx, the chronic illness and how it changes your life, how others see you, the horrible medicines with side effects, to finally the inspiring journey of dealing with this new life.
“Waking up on Saturday morning, an aura of peacefulness surrounded me. I smiled from ear-to-ear. Later, my boyfriend surprised me with flowers and a celebration dinner, which kept me glowing all day.
While one chapter ends today, another begins! I hope this book starts many conversations about narcolepsy around the world – in households, classrooms, book clubs, and doctors offices.
Thank you for your incredible support – for giving me the courage to speak up and pursue my writing dreams.”
